Under my thumb: fried rabbit stew (Τηγανιτό κουνέλι)

First she had me making kalitsounia...

... and now I'm in the kitchen...

... frying rabbit.

All the rabbit is used in this dish, including the head - it's in the plate.

Better write down the recipe if this happens again, knock on wood.

And he thought I spent all my time on the computer. Everything else got done as I waved my magic wand and screeched "Abraca-frigging-dabra" at the top of my voice.

Welcome to the real world, honey.

  2. Awww, I love it! What a keeper of a guy! His folded kalitsounia look wonderful, and I've never had rabbit, but this looks perfectly golden to me! Well done, Mr. O.C.! He's scoring lots of points doing this! Hope the antibiotics have kicked in and that you are starting to feel better, Maria. Really, take good care.

  3. Well, you've already seen my other comment...ha ha! Rabbit? You got rabbit when you were sick? You're so lucky! I get leftovers and whatever sort of frozen food is available in the freezer. Once it was fish sticks...bleck. Yep...sick as hell and he served me fish sticks.

I hope that you feel better soon. It really stinks being sick. I'm sending sunny thoughts your way! (just think of the expression on my face when I received a plate of fish sticks in bed and that should suffice)

  5. Maria, so sorry to hear that you've been so ill. I hope you're feeling better soon, and I'm glad that Mr Organically Cooked is looking after you. Perhaps this horrible illness will leave everyone, your children included, with a renewed appreciation for each other ...

The rabbit stew looks delicious. I've tried feeding my family with rabbit (I like it a great deal), but even my elder daughter refused to eat it, and my younger (vegetarian) daughter would have been out of the room if she'd seen the head on the plate. My mother's family bred rabbits to eat during the war, so I was brought up on it, old habits dying hard.

    Best wishes,

    Margaret

  6. Aww, he's a keeper! I don't think my husband would ever make anything other than an omellete or plain pasta with grated cheese if I wasn't feeling well.
Perastika Maria ... hope you're feeling a little better just seeing your sweet husband helping out in the kitchen!

  9. Maria, your husband is being a "true gentleman". He might even uncork a latent passion in the kitchen.

    Get well and bon appetit!

  10. Oh! I wrote my previous comment before seeing this so you and Mr. Organically Cooked had already anticipated that we'd all be curious about the kalitsounia. But rabbit, too? That sounds wonderful. Perhaps you need a few extra days to recuperate completely . . .

  12. Get well soon. I will miss your posts but we all need a break from blogging now and then. Kotosoupa for a speedy recovery:

As for your husband he is making the rest of us kitchen challenged males look quite bad. And to think I was rather proud of warming up a can of chicken soup recently without any help.

  13. Tee hee!! I always say that most men need a stint in the house with no female help to understand what really goes on.

  14. My cat's eat baby rabbits, the head, the tail the whole damn thing. Me, I have have an aversion to rabbit. My dad used to kill them when I was a kid, I was a vegetarian at age 5 - I kid you not. Things have moved on a pace since then, but I still can't bring myself to eat rabbit. :-)

  15. Tease this out for as long as possible...you're awakening his inner cook. It takes time for it to all come together...

  16. My friend George's mother used to make the most wonderful rabbit braised with a ton of small onions and red wine. I loved it! Most of the Greek men I knew when I lived in Xania were capable and fussy cooks, although most preferred to stare over my shoulder and complain about what I was doing. Your husband is a peach.
